LIBRARY COLLECTION

To enable the users to access our collection with reasonable ease, the collection has been divided as follows:

  1. SHORT LOAN COLLECTION: Books on high demand can be borrowed and read within the library for a period of three hours maximum. If a user overstays with a book from this section, overdue charges apply as stipulated in the library rules and regulations.
  2. GENERAL COLLECTION: This section holds the bulk of our information materials. In this section, students are allowed to borrow books for a maximum period of two weeks for undergraduates and four weeks (one month) for postgraduates.
  3. REFERENCE COLLECTION: The Library has a wide range of reference resources like dictionaries, handbooks and encyclopedia etc. These reference materials have limited access as one can only use them within the Library.
  4. THESIS AND PROJECTS: The Library is also now well stocked with theses. Library users can access thesis and projects online through the link http://repository.seku.ku.ac.ke/

Information literacy is a set of abilities enabling individuals to recognize when information is needed, and be able to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information. SEKU library provides information literacy (IL) training that empowers students, faculty, and staff with the information literacy skills needed to be self-sufficient in finding, selecting, evaluating and using information. Kitui town campus library is located in Kitui town along Kilungya Street on the 4th floor of John Ngonde Arcade. Library users have access to over 100,000 e-books and e-journals and over 2000 volumes of book titles.

Library Collection

Information resources in the library have been arranged (shelved) using Library of Congress classification scheme, hence users can access them with ease and retrievable.
The library collection has been divided into the following sections:-

  • Short Loan Section: This is a section within the Circulation desk which reserve books that are on high demand and few copies available.
  • Reference Section: This is a section for dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanac, yearbooks and other reference materials; they are used only in the library.
  • Current Awareness Section: This is a section adjacent to the circulation desk. Its main purpose is to display newly acquired books for a specified period of time.
  • General Collection: This section holds most library materials from all subject strength and disciplines which can be borrowed for long loan depending on the category of library users.
  • Audiovisual Section: This section contains both audio and visual materials which are used within the library.
